Esports

UBuffalo Esports teams represent the university in high-level competitive play and provide students with opportunities to build critical thinking and strategy skills.

Who We Are

Welcome to UBuffalo Esports - the ultimate home for gamers at UB! Whether you're here to compete, find your gaming community, or just level up with other players, we’re all about building an inclusive space where everyone from casual players to competitors can thrive.

For the players who love competition, UBuffalo Esports competes at the varsity level in games like League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Valorant.

We also represent UB in Esports Collegiate (ESC), the Eastern College Athletic Conference for Esports (ECAC), the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), and SUNY Esports.

Get Involved with Esports

Getting involved with Buffalo Esports is super easy. Whether you're looking for friendly matches, competitive games, or an inclusive gaming community, our Discord server or gaming spaces in Red Jacket and Level Up in the Lockwood Library are the best places to get started.

For competitive play without the varsity-level commitment, check out our intramural teams! We offer teams in Apex, CS, Fortnite, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, Super Smash Bros, and Valorant.

We also support a women's/non-binary team competing in Valorant. If you are interested in starting another women's/non-binary team for another game, please contact Student Engagement!

If you’re driven by competition, consider trying out for our varsity teams in League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, or Valorant.

UB Student Gaming Association

The UB Student Gaming Association is a student-run club under the Buffalo Esports Office. This open group for UB students allows them to connect and progress through an experience that can provide them with various ways to explore their shared interests and engage with their peers. Students can choose to either be a community member or have the opportunity to engage further.

Club-Level Experiences

Community Groups

Form or join an already established game community group that provides weekly events in various game titles.

Intramural Teams

These teams are open to all active members within the Student Gaming Association and, depending on league or conference, may have specific academic requirements for participation.

This is an excellent pipeline for students looking to level up to Varsity to establish themselves in the program.

Open Leagues

UB-organized competitive play against other gamers outside the university community, this is an opportunity for them to refine their skills through prearranged tournaments.

Student Leadership Opportunities

There is a lot of work that goes into the operations of a gaming association. Some students looking to take on leadership opportunities will have the ability to connect and lead their community through several staff roles, including games community officers, production team, student managers, and more.
