UB Guardian converts smartphones into personal safety devices
Turn your phone into a personal safety device. Download the free UB Guardian safety app to check in with family, friends, University Police or others you trust to help you stay safe both on and off campus.
UB Police and the Office of Emergency Management encourage all students, faculty and staff to enhance their personal safety and the safety of their friends by first registering for UB Alert and then downloading the free UB Guardian app from the Apple store or Google Play. The app can be found by searching for "Rave Guardian." UB Guardian is a service supported by Rave Mobile Safety, the same company UB uses to send UB Alerts.
With this app you can:
With the Safety Timer, your status and location are available to those you trust. Set it up when you are heading somewhere unfamiliar, meeting with someone you don’t know or any other time you would like someone to check in with you.
Your Guardians will be notified if your timer expires. Remember to deactivate it when you are safe.
If the Safety Timer has run out, your guardian will be notified by the app, and they will also be able to see the location of your phone on a map.
- Call University Police: If you are in trouble on campus, you can easily call 716-645-2222.
- You can also send a text tip – including photos – to the University Police Dispatchers.
- UB Guardian can also connect you to other support services including UB medical and counselling resources.
UB Guardian is a companion app to the existing UB Alert emergency notification system, and will be able to receive UB Alert push notifications about weather and emergency situations.
