Storage Utilization Standards

Review the guidelines that articulate the sizes, utilization guidelines, and assignments for UB's various types of storage space.

ON THIS PAGE:

Introduction

It is incumbent upon the university and all departments/units to manage our space as a critical state asset. Space is valuable and must be maximally utilized to ensure that the fundamental activities of the university (education and research) have adequate space for our faculty and staff to perform their duties in these areas.

The following guidelines articulate the sizes, utilization guidelines, and assignments for the various types of storage space at UB:

  • Administrative storage, general departmental storage.
  • Storage that supports education and student clubs and other activities.
  • Equipment storage, storage that supports research grants, secure storage, IT and other equipment storage.
  • Does not include: chemical and hazardous materials storage, digital storage.

Storage Allotment

Pie Chart showing 3% Space Allotment.

Figure 1

Schools/units will strive to contain their storage inventory to 3% of their overall space portfolio. (Figure 1)

Schools/units are highly encouraged to regularly (annually) conduct space audits to edit their storage inventory to ensure that their holdings support their current administrative, education and research needs.
