Accounts are used to track revenue and expenditure activity. State, Research Foundation and UB Foundation each have a unique Chart of Accounts. Consider the funding source, trial balance, account purpose (NACUBO) and if a reserve account is needed when creating and managing your accounts.
A complete listing of the chart of accounts can be found on the support tables dashboard in SIRI.
The university has three primary funding sources: State, Research Foundation and UB Foundation. There are different types of accounts within these funding sources.
There are different types of UB Foundation accounts available depending on the business purpose, outlined in the UB Foundation Account Types chart.
Trial Balance | Funding | Account Purpose |
---|---|---|
UBF – Spendable | Cash | Supports and promotes UB activities and programs. UBF spendable accounts are funded primarily from donor gifts and service revenues and may have specific usage restrictions depending on the source of funds. |
UBF – Endowment | Cash | Earns and grows a return on investment of the donations made to the account. Funds are intended to be held in perpetuity and cannot be "spent." A percentage of the return transfers to the matching spendable account for university use including student scholarships and awards. For additional information about Endowments, refer to the Endowments or Annual (Term) Funds information in the Naming Opportunities Guidelines. |
Number Format | Description |
---|---|
X-XXXXX | UB Foundation accounts consist of a one-digit number followed by a five-digit number. |
