CII 2024 Film Series

CII is hosting a film series on Artificial Intelligence and the ethical implications of our increasing reliance on this little-understood technology.

Screenings will take place in Silverman Library in Capen Hall and will be followed by faculty-led discussion about the issues raised in the film. All screenings are FREE. Refreshments will be provided.

When MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini discovers that facial recognition does not see dark-skinned faces accurately, she embarks on a journey to push for the first-ever U.S. legislation against bias in algorithms that impact us all. Directed by Shalini Kantayya. Documentary.

Followed by a panel discussion by CII Members E. Bruce Pitman and Jasmina Tacheva.

Robin Wright plays an aging, out-of-work actress accepts one last job, though the consequences of her decision affect her in ways she didn't consider. Directed by Ari Folman.

Followed by discussion by Dr. Mark Bartholemew of UB School of Law.

 

A producer's film is endangered when his star walks off, so he decides to digitally create an actress to substitute for the star, becoming an overnight sensation that everyone thinks is a real person. Starring Al Pacino, Catherine Keener, and Rachel Roberts. Directed by Andrew Niccol.

UB Center for Information Integrity co-Directors Dr. Siwei Lyu and Dr. David Castillo will follow the film with a discussion on its message as it relates to media, artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and popular culture.
