VP or Dean's Area Approvers

Learn about your role in the recruitment process as a VP or Dean's Area approver in support of the university's mission to create a more diverse and inclusive culture.

Hiring managers submit actions in UB Jobs to the VP or Dean's area approver. As an approver in UB Jobs, you are responsible for verifying submissions and funding before submitting to Human Resources for the final approval.

Approving Position Requests

All State Professional, State Classified, and Research Foundation positions require a position request in UB Jobs. As an approver, you should verify the following information before submitting the request to Human Resources:

  • position fits in your workforce plan
  • classification requirements have been met
  • funding exists for anticipated salary obligations

Initiating Postings

The posting for State Faculty, State Professional, State Classified, and University Affiliate positions is initiated at the posting meeting with Human Resources.  A posting can be routed from the hiring manager to the VP or Dean’s approver before final posting. When initiating a posting, the VP/Dean's area approver should:

  • identify search commitee chair
  • provide the charge to the search committee/chair
  • define salary expectations for the hire

Approving Hiring Proposals

All positions require a hiring proposal to be submitted and approved before an offer can be made to the selected candidate. When approving a hiring proposal, you should make sure that:

  • the candidate meets all minimum qualifications that were listed on the posting
  • the minimum posting period has been satisfied
  • the anticipated starting salary is within the range that was advertised on the posting
  • funding is still available for the recommended salary
