The University at Buffalo Information Technology (UBIT) operates as a covered entity as defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights (OCR). HIPAA Regulation Text 45 CFR Part 164.308 (a)(5)(i) requires a covered entity to implement security awareness and training programs for all members of its workforce, including its management.
UBIT takes reasonable steps to ensure workforce members, including those who work remotely, are informed of information security risks on an ongoing basis.
UBIT takes reasonable steps to ensure that workforce members, including those who work remotely, know how to follow UBIT’s security policies and procedures.
UBIT provides its workforce members with ongoing and appropriate reminders and updates with respect to security procedures and how to use ePHI Systems in order to reduce security risks.
UBIT ensures periodic security updates.
This policy applies to all UBIT workforce members.
