Need to Know

Entry Level
Departments can hire temporary classified service staff for up to one year through the Temporary Office Assistant 1 applicant pool.
Departments can transition current temporary hourly Office Assistant 1's from their temporary hourly position into a permanent probationary position.
Promotional Titles
Departments can use a posting in UB Jobs to hire a temporary classified service staff for a temporary position for up to one year.
Need to Know
Promotional candidates have first preference if three or more interested and qualified candidates are serving in the direct line lower level title. They must be appointed prior to appointing a qualified non-state employee.
If hiring, the department will need to work with the Workforce Planning Specialist to obtain a Competitive Classified clearance code.
Need to Know
Provisional appointments will not be permissible under the HELPS program.
A provisional appointment will transition into a permanent probationary appointment.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Two years of experience in administrative support, which includes use of office software, provision of customer service, business writing, and/or office administration.
Must pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates the ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy by completion of probation.
Possession of a license and current registration to practice dental hygiene in New York State.
There are no education or experience requirements for this position.
One year of full-time clerical experience in a library setting.
License and current registration to practice radiologic technology in New York State.
One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self propelled motor equipment.
Maintenance Supervisor 2
Two years of first-level supervisory experience in either the maintenance and operation of a physical plant; building contruction; and/or building renovation and/or repair projects.

Two years of full-time service as a laboratory animal caretaker in a research facility including but not limited to hospitals, universities, institutions, or laboratories; or two years of full-time experience in the handling and care of live vertebrate animals in other than a residential setting and one year of full-time service as a laboratory animal caretaker in a research facility including but not limited to hospitals, universities, institutions, or laboratories.
Three years of experience performing clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional work in an office environment.

One year of full time experience as a Police or Peace Officer; Or one year of full time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement; Or one year of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military, where you served as a dispatcher or military police/security personnel.
